11. Creating a writing space

Most social workers have to spend a significant proportion of their working hours undertaking writing tasks.  We also know that social workers can experience significant levels of stress because of the physical conditions of their workplace when they are trying to write documents that they are finding emotionally challenging. Consider your work space and make notes on the following:

  • How would you describe it? Write as many words as you can think of e.g. cramped, light, dark, airy, nice view, awful view etc.
  • How do you work best e.g. tidy desk or cluttered desk; on your own or with others around?
